in Developmental Education, Educational Psychology Department in the College

of Education.   Effective Learning Strategies curricula encompasses a self-

assessment of collegiate learners as well concepts and theories to help students

become self-directed and self regulated learners.   Class lectures and activities

include academic transformation; becoming an autonomous learner; model of

academic motivation; goal setting; study strategies; types of knowledge;  test

taking preparation; reading college textbooks; understanding personality and

learning differences; neural development, operant conditioning; increasing

motivational and stress reduction techniques.   Class is targeting students at risk

and students transitioning into college.   During the summer, the class was

specifically taught to incoming freshmen in the “Summer Bridge” program

targeting conditionally enrolled students.  The program specifically addressed

assisting students transition into higher education by addressing academic

and social transitions.
