Course Requirements
Grade:Your average in this class will be based on the following formula:
60% Tests
20% Homework
20% Comprehensive Final Exam
The grade for this class is determined by this numerical average, calculated by the formula above. The letter grade is assigned using the traditional method which assigns letter grades as follows:
a numerical average, N: will be assigned a letter grade of:
90 or more A
80 or more B
70 or more C
60 or more D
less than 60 F
Tests: The four tests will be taken in the RVS Testing Center. A grade of zero will be recorded for any missed tests. Your final exam grade may replace the lowest of the first three test grades.
Homework: You will be assigned homework at most class meetings. The homework is due at the beginning of the next class meeting. No late papers will be accepted. (No exceptions!) In addition to the problems you must turn in, you should work additional problems from your text, as needed, to ensure your understanding of the material. A list of suggested problems is attached. You are responsible for checking your answers and asking for help with problems that give you trouble. Please keep a list of the troublesome problems so we can go over them in class or during my office hours. If you will be absent on the due date, you may fax your work to me at 223-6709.(Be sure to include your name and mine on the fax.) or you may have someone drop it off at the Mailroom, Bldg A, room 2209. This must be done no later than the beginning of class time on the due date. The twenty best homework grades will be used to determine your homework average.
Attendance: Regular attendance is expected. Attendance will be taken at each class meeting. If you are absent for four or more class meetings, you should consider withdrawing from the class. If, for any reason, you can no longer attend this class be sure to officially withdraw from the class.
Final Exam: The Departmental Final Exam will be taken in class. See the schedule below for dates
Miscellaneous: If you need any special accommodation, please bring me a copy of your accommodation letter right away. All communications equipment must be turned off during class.
Important Dates:
Adds & Drops Tue May 29 – Wed May 30
Holiday (campus closed) Wed July 4
Last day to withdraw Wed Aug 1
Final exam Tues Aug 14
Your success in this course is important to me. We are partners in this endeavor and only by working together can we achieve success. It is your responsibility to allocate the needed time and effort to accomplish your educational goals. No instructor can make up for what you will not do. I will be happy to answer your questions and I encourage you to let me know if further explanation is needed. Welcome to a great new semester!
